"It
is not muscular strength that gives us the feeling of lightness and ease in the body. It is the
flexibility of the joints."
-Paul Grilley, Yin Yoga Master
"A student of Sarah Powers and Yin Yoga creator Paul Grilley, Fleming gives
Yin Yoga her own twist with her heartfelt empathy and encouragement. Her
voice sounds like liquid ambrosia, making it a pleasure to have her guiding
you through your "compassionate edge." And not having a screen to watch
makes for a more inbound practice. Added bonus: Fleming's audio cd comes
with an insert that shows all the yoga poses."

Yin Yoga with Erin Fleming
Strong, yet passive, Yin Yoga poses help rehabilitate
the joints by stimulating prana or chi into areas of the body that are harder to reach. They also
serve as a perfect balance to a muscularly active "Yang" yoga practice.
In Yin Yoga, specific postures (typically seated) are
held for 3-5 minutes to access the dense, fiberous ligaments, or connective tissue of the joints.
The intention is to stimulate circulation in less-flexible areas, typically in the joints closest to
the core of the body: the hips, lower back and sacrum area. Connective tissue does not respond to
brief rhythmical stretches the way muscle tissue does. When these denser joints become more supple,
all activity is enhanced and seated meditations become easier. This way of practicing is new
to most students of Yoga. Recommended for athletes and Yoga practioners of all levels, a "
beginner's mind" is essential; an open mind, rather than an open body, will truly deepen the
experience of this profound practice.
